April 3, 1973 – The First Cell Phone Call
Martin Cooper considered the “father of the cellular phone”, makes the first cell phone call on a New York City street.
Martin Cooper’s first job was at Teletype Corporation in Chicago in 1954 and joined Motorola, Inc. as a senior development engineer in the mobile equipment group. He developed many cellular devices including the first cellular-like portable handheld police radio system, produced for the Chicago police department in 1967.
